A little bit country…cherry sprinkles dress!

Ciarra feeling a little bit country…in her Cherry Sprinkles dress.

Ciarra looking so sassy!

You can see the rain coming down in this pic! love it!

This dress has quite a bit of history behind it….
technically you can call this dress a “franken-dress” because it is many pieces of something else that were put together to make it! LOL!
It first began as an attempt to make a sort of sundress, but I hated the way it looked on me. Then I turned pieces of the dress into this top.

I hated that too…and so it sat in my closet rotting away in my “garment graveyard”

Then one day I asked Ciarra to try the top on. It looked better on her, than it did me. She thought it was ok, but we both decided it would look a whole lot better if it was turned into a dress again.
We both love the dress Reese Witherspoon wears with cowgirl boots in the movie Sweet home Alabama, So I decided to try and work with what scraps I had left, and this top to try and make our own version of the dress from the movie.

The dress came out ok for being made of scraps! LOL. I think it looks adorable on Ciarra too. I just realized that Ciarra’s hair is cut a lot like Reese’s hair in the movie as well! how perfect!
It’s raining on us!

cowgirl boots with dresses! LOVE! don’t forget my boho vintage handbag!

  1. Thank You Shirley! I am lucky I am able to type at all right now and reply. Lightning hit right behind my house today, and blew out the cable, landline and my internet! I am actually replying to this through my husbands phone! LOL!

  2. Believe it or not, I did not use pattern for this dress. I took all the bits and pieces left over from the original dress, and top, measured them to my daughter, and pieced away. It was like a big puzzle! πŸ™‚ I actually created the original dress a couple of years ago, and it was from Simplicity pattern 3777. You might be able to find this pattern on ebay or etsy. It is an empire waist dress with sleeve variations. After I made it, I did not like the way it looked on me, so I cut it into a top. Now it is the cherry sprinkles dress πŸ™‚

  3. EEK! I have been looking for someone to recreate this dress sense the movie first came out!! πŸ™‚ So happy to find this..now if I can only manage to recreate it for myself!!! πŸ™‚

  4. I have searched for this dress everywhere, tried to make it and didn't turn out well, needless to say sewing is my weakest link, have you ever thought about making them to sell. I would buy one from you and really soon. kbass67@yahoo.com, there is no seamstress or dress makers in my little town so I am looking for someone to make this dress.

  5. Yes Kelly, I have thought about opening up a store on Etsy or UsTrendy and selling my garments. I would not be able to get around to this until May though. I am currently in school right now, and this semester is extremely demanding. I would start off selling dresses, and swimwear at first. If you are interested in having one of these dresses, I will figure out costs and get back to you. I am done with this semester in May, and then I am on summer break. I have one more year left and then I will have a degree in Fashion Design! YAY! I would love to have you as one of my first customers. πŸ™‚

  6. I would love to be one of your first customers. Let me know how much and we can figure out the rest… May will be fine. In July my mom and I go to Nashville for a week, the end of summer thing and Conference and I would love to be able to wear this dress up there. Well Congrats on a long journey and I know the feeling. I graduate from College this past January and it is an amazing feeling when it is done. Stay in touch. And thank you so much ..

  7. Hi, I too just adore this dress! I would definitely buy one from you if you sell them on Etsy. Please email me at carlnjenn@yahoo.com if you get the chance to let me know how much and when they might be available. LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress! You're so talented! I am so horrible at sewing. πŸ™

    Thanks,

  8. Hi Jenn,
I will be posting updates via my blog as to when I will have these dresses for sale. πŸ™‚ I have been sourcing fabrics in my spare time, and looking into supplies etc. I am curious as to what sizes everyone who is interested is? Ciarra's dress in the photos fits a size 4 or 6 (because the bodice stretches) I would love to get some feedback on the sizing issue.
Thanks for your comment and support πŸ™‚

  9. Hi Amy,
I've spent waay to much time searching for this dress on the internet and your version is better than the original. Please open a shop, you'll make a fortune! I'll put my hand up to be next in line to buy one of these dresses if you do start to sell them. You have such a talent.. I agree the sizing should be quite lenient with the elastic bodice. I'm a uk8 or an au10 (sorry i'm from Australia) but i am 5'10" so hopefully it wouldn't be a bit short, def willing to roll the dice though. Your blog's amazing btw, loving your fashion nous. cat.darvell@gmail.com

  10. Thank you Cat! πŸ™‚ I love how tall you are! Supermodel height! fabulous!! I am working on gathering fabrics right now to begin production of my dresses and things. Thank you so much for telling me your size, it is really helpful. I will be letting everyone know when I open up shop.
I was also curious what people would think of this dress in other prints and colors?? I have found some really cute prints that I think this dress would look great in. Would love some feedback.
I will be moving to a new home in the near future here, which will help a lot. I need work space so badly.
Thanks again Cat for your support and your lovely comments,
    Have a great day!

  11. I love moving house, setting up house and making the space your own… I'm jealous. I think the dress would look great in deep burgandy, dark olive, navy or grey prints…burnt orange & earthy tones etc….The print you have it in is lovely but it's not make or break for me…i love the style of it best. I can see from your photos that your far to stylish to pic a tragic print so im sure whatever you have you eye on is wonderful! πŸ™‚

Can't wait until Amy Stebbins Online Boutique is open for business. I'll be stalking your blog in wait:)

  13. Amy,

My name is Brian Olejnik, I'm attempting to be the world's greatest husband. My wife likes to remind me how much she loves the "sweet home Alabama" dress. I've been searching the internet forever trying to find something close ad stumbled across your page. I am aware this post is somewhat older, however I was still curious if you were making more of them. Please contact me at BriOlejnik@yahoo.com

  14. Yes, I will be making more of them once I move. Right now my family and I are in a transition stage, and our house is on the market. Once I move I will be setting up shop to sell my garments. Just follow my blog to get updates to when that will be.
Thanks for stopping by, and your interest. πŸ™‚

  16. I would love to buy one (or more!) of these dresses! Are they available yet? I am 6ft tall and wear a 12/14. I think the dress would be great in solid black and also white eyelet fabric πŸ™‚ It's exactly what I want to wear to a country music concert I am going to this summer! If you are selling them, I would be very interested – lindsaylagreid@gmail.com

  17. Hi! I would also love this dress! I'm in Australia though, so not sure what your international postage agreement is – are you still making these dresses?

    Cheers,
    Emma
