Welcome to Part 1!
Whenever I think about summer or the ocean there is always one thing that jumps to the foreground of my mind—mermaids! I absolutely love anything mermaid related, from movies/TV to fashion! So why not share my mermaid obsession with you all, starting with…
Real life mermaids & mermen!?
Yes, there are real mermaids and mermen out there! I discovered mermaid/mermen performers a couple years ago and I think it’s one of the coolest things ever! One of my favorite performers that I’ve been following is the lovely Mermaid Melissa.

Not only does she have her own website (http://www.mermaidmelissa.com/), but she also has a YouTube channel where you can see her swim in some gorgeous locations.

Speaking of locations, one of the places on my bucket list to visit to see some real life mermaids in action is of course Weeki Wachee Springs in Florida!
Learning about this fantastic and *magical* place also introduced me to the amazing artists who actually create these gorgeous tails that make the whole fantasy come alive.
One of my favorite said tail creators (as well as performer) is the Mertailor!

His tails are so pretty, and since I’ve been following his work for a while now, I can pretty much recognize one of his tails on sight! Here are some great examples of his work!

If you liked those pictures you can also see some of these tails in action on his YouTube channel:

Movies & TV!
I of course loved Disney’s The Little Mermaid growing up, but another of my big time favorite mermaid movies was a little 1984 film starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah called Splash!
Fun Fact: There are plans to remake this film, but with an interesting twist…Channing Tatum will be playing the role as the mermaid, or I should say merman.
Since then, I’ve always kept my eyes open for new mermaid related films or TV shows.
A more recent favorite mermaid film of mine that always makes me wish for summer is Aquamarine!
TV show wise, I’ve been a longtime fan of H2O: Just Add Water and the newest continuation from Netflix, Mako Mermaids, which finally did what I wished H2O would have done and that is add a merman to the story!
And yes…I would lump both of these shows under my “guilty pleasure” file, but what I love the most about these shows is that for *nearly* all the scenes they are using real tails and not CGI. CGI mermaid tails just drive me crazy!
Music!
To wrap up this first part of my mermaid related blogs I wanted to share one of my favorite mermaid songs!
I hope you all enjoyed this post, and for next time I will specifically focusing on my favorite mermaid books & graphic novels for part 2!
