Hello October

My favorite fall month is finally here!! Hello October! I look forward to the month of October every year, and for good reason. There are so many fun things that my family and I do, and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. In October, the colors of autumn really start to glow here where I live. The mornings are crisp and cool, which then turn to warm afternoons. The evenings are spent next to a warm fire, sipping hot cocoa, or a nice glass of wine. For me,  October is one of those perfect months during the year, where everything warms my heart, and fills my soul.

What I’ll be doing this month

October will be a busy month for sure. In addition to getting items uploaded to my shop, I will be out and about with my family, taking part in the many traditions we look forward to each year. First up we will be visiting our favorite apple picking spot. We absolutely adore escaping to the mountains when ever we can. Our favorite apple picking spot is in the mountains of western VA.

Just a few apples! Our dog Mickey loves to snack on what people drop! LOL

This year, we will be checking out the tasting room at Carter Mountian, for Bold Rock Hard Cider. Ciarra can’t have gluten, so it’s awesome that Bold Rock is gluten free! It tastes amazing. I love the Peach and Pear varieties. I recently had their IPA and amber cider. Both were good, and I can’t stand any IPA, so that is saying something.

Along with our hard cider, we will be enjoying the yummy hot apple cider donuts they serve on the mountain, which we get every year.

My husband and I were discussing taking a family photo at one of the wineries and state parks we visited on our anniversary. I fell in love with the area, and think it would make an amazing back drop for our 2017 family portrait. We haven’t taken a formal photo like this in a few years, so we are overdue. The best part is that we will get to visit Sky Meadows again, and also hit the wineries around that area.

Because the temperatures have dropped by now, we will be out on our mountain bikes much more. We love to ride through the forest when it is ablaze with fall color.

My son and I also like to go on runs at the sports center, just up the road a bit. They have miles of trails which go through the cool dense woods. They are amazing for autumnal runs! There are also a few ponds which are photo worthy, which I always stop at, to snap a few photos.

Around mid month, we will be visiting our favorite local farm to pick out our pumpkins for jack-o-lanterns. They have pumpkin chicken which my son and husband always try, and we love visiting all the animals they have at the farm. We enjoy visiting local farms like this. I highly recommend you look up pick-your-own farms local to you, and visit them! They make for some amazing family memories, plus you are helping a local business to thrive.

When Halloween rolls around we will be participating in a “trunk-or-treat” at my son’s school. We purchased a few items to decorate our car already, and I have been stock piling Halloween candy for the event. The entire month of October we binge watch scary movies, in addition to some “not so scary” movies like Hocus Pocus. Who doesn’t love that movie??
