Fitness Update #7….
We are in the home stretch of our 8 week fitness challenge. This past week was interesting. I am learning more about what I need more of in my weekly fitness plan, and how to deal with aging and keeping fit. Nutrition is a big part of staying healthy as we grow older, but I truly believe remaining active is just as important. It keeps our joints lubricated, and our minds alert. Keeping our muscles primed, stimulated, as well as massaged is extremely important. This is why I add foam rolling into my routine. To learn why I love this technique, read on….
Foam Rolling-Why I do it….
I am sure many of you are familiar with foam rolling, but in case you aren’t foam rolling is a technique used for self-massage. It helps to soothe tight, sore areas (known as “trigger points”) and speed up muscle recovery. This process of rolling out tight muscles and relieving tension is also called myofascial release.
I have had several injuries over the years (from accidents as well as overuse) and my physical therapists always had me using a foam roller for recovery. Foam rolling is especially important for women, as our hips are wider, therefore we are more prone to knee injuries! My using the foam roller on your IT band regularly, you may help to prevent future injury. To learn more about foam rolling, check out this informative website here.
I have included some foam rolling workout videos from GymRa here that are on YouTube. I highly recommend adding these into your workout rotation in order to speed healing, and increase mobility!
I hope you consider giving foam rolling a try! You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!
Until Next Post,
Have a healthy and happy week,
